Community Advocacy Committee – Call for Members
Currently accepting applications for Chair, Chair-Elect and Members of a newly formed Community Advocacy Committee.
The Community Advocacy Committee facilitates resources and strategies for Reading Recovery professionals to strongly advocate for Reading Recovery, DLL, IPLE, and Literacy Lessons in their local communities, including with other teachers in their buildings, with building and district leadership, school boards, parents & families, and others at the local community level. The Community Advocacy Committee will work in coordination with a new State Legislation Response Team that will focus on state-level advocacy issues.
Through regular meetings and volunteer opportunities on your own time, members of the Community Advocacy Committee will:
- Identify a multi-year workplan as a new committee that helps focus the group’s efforts on Community Advocacy in Reading Recovery.
- Review the existing resources on the newly established Community Advocacy webpage, identifying resources that need to be updated and gaps in existing resources needed to assist Teachers and Teacher Leaders better advocate for Reading Recovery at the community level.
- Specifically focus on expanding resources to strengthen communications between Reading Recovery Teachers and Parents/Family of our students.
- Conduct one webinar during 2021-22 for members on developing skills in strengthening community advocacy.
- Monthly, identify one compelling discussion lead or question to post in the Reading Recovery Online Community Member Forum, to generate sharing of peer-to-peer perspectives about successful community advocacy efforts already occurring in the field.
